Laaw.io (“the Platform,” Costa Rican corporate ID No. 3-102-965460) is the controller responsible for the personal data collected through this platform.

This Policy is governed primarily by Costa Rica’s Law No. 8968 — Law on the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (Ley de Protección de la Persona frente al Tratamiento de sus Datos Personales) and its regulations, under the oversight of PRODHAB, Costa Rica’s data protection agency.

2. Personal Data We Collect

  • Account and registration data: name, email address, password (encrypted), phone number (optional).
  • Service usage data: content of queries submitted to the AI assistant.
  • Technical data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser, access date and time, technical identifiers (device fingerprinting).
  • Payment data: information required to process your subscription (handled by secure payment processors).

We do not directly collect sensitive data (health, religion, sexual orientation, biometric data, etc.).

3. Purposes of Processing

  • Providing the AI-powered legal consultation service.
  • Managing your account and subscription.
  • Preventing fraud and ensuring platform security.
  • Improving the AI system’s performance and accuracy (using anonymized data whenever possible).
  • Complying with legal obligations and responding to requests from authorities.
  • Sending important communications related to the service.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

  • Your consent (given upon registration and acceptance of this Policy).
  • Performance of the service contract.
  • Our legitimate interest (security, service improvement, and fraud prevention).

You may withdraw your consent at any time.

5. Disclosure of Data to Third Parties

  • AI service providers (e.g., the Claude API or others) — only the text of your query.
  • Payment processors (Stripe, PayPal, or others) — data required to process your subscription.
  • Hosting and cloud service providers — for the platform’s technical operation.
  • Licensed attorneys — only when you request escalation of your query (limited to the data necessary).

We do not sell or share your data with third parties for commercial or marketing purposes.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our providers (such as our AI service provider) may be located outside of Costa Rica. In such cases, we ensure appropriate safeguards are applied through data processing agreements.

7. Data Retention

  • Account and query data: for as long as your account remains active, plus an additional 2 years.
  • Technical data and logs: up to 12 months.
  • Payment and billing data: as required by tax legislation.

After these periods, data is securely deleted or anonymized.

8. Your Rights (Access, Rectification, Erasure, Objection, and more)

  • Access your personal data.
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Delete your data (right to erasure).
  • Object to processing.
  • Restrict processing.
